Bemidji, Minn. – Northland Fishing Tackle continues its 40-year tradition of creating innovative fish-catching leadheads with the revolutionary new Swivel-Head Jig.
Crafted with a bulletproof barrel swivel connecting the flat-bottomed, football-shaped head to a size 2 Crawler Hauler VMC cone-cut hook, the Swivel-Head Jig imparts incredible action to live tippings and artificial trailers alike.
“Building on the concept of swing-head-style jigs that are popular in the bass market, Northland married a swivel with its frantic-action Crawler Hauler Hook to give baits a 360-degree range of motion,” says Team Northland™ member and multispecies fishing expert Jeff “Gussy” Gustafson. “It gives you the unrestrained action of a live-bait rig, coupled with the total control of a jig.”
While the hook’s free-swinging action is a knockout for walleyes and a variety of other gamefish, the jig’s head also adds to the attraction. “The football design rocks and rolls across the bottom, while the flat underside makes the bait sit straight up in a natural position on the pause, like a minnow feeding on the bottom,” he explains.
Once hooked, fish are less likely to come unbuttoned than with standard fixed-hook jig designs. “Fish are typically hooked in the top of the mouth, and the free-swinging hook won’t let them get any leverage to throw the hook,” says Gustafson. “It’s also more snag-resistant than regular jigs.”
Given its unique attributes, the new jig is an all-around all-star. “The Swivel-Head Jig excels in many applications, from dragging shiners behind the boat to pitching plastics and vertical jigging in rivers,” Gustafson adds.
Swivel-Head Jigs are available in 1/8-, 1/4- and 3/8-ounce sizes and eight alluring coloration’s. Suggested retail ranges from $3.29 to $3.79 per two.
