Post-Spawn Mississippi River Walleyes with Jason Mitchell Outdoor Television ā We spot lock off shallow current seams and sand bars. Classic spring walleye fishing pattern after the spawn where pitching jigs and soft plastics can be so effective and fun. Presentation is a two foot hop or drag where the boat is positioned in about ten feet of water and we are casting into about three feet of water. Using a 1/4 ounce Northland Tackle MVP jig which we love for soft plastics because of the hook gap. We are rigging the MVP jig with an Eye Candy Paddle Shad. The Mississippi River is a phenomenal walleye fishery. In this video, we are specifically on Lake Pepin. This region offers great walleye fishing through out the year with opportunities for both numbers of fish and trophy fish. What makes this river so incredibly fun is the number of presentations you can use to catch fish and the variety of locations and patterns. If there is one word that would describe fishing the Mississippi River⦠that word would be flexible. Change is constant and you have to be flexible as an angler. Current can pulse, fluctuate and change continuously which affect how and where these fish set up. Throw in seasonal changes and you often have to fly by the seat of your pants. On this trip, we stayed at an over the top cabin owned by Rutting Ridge Outfitters. This cabin is used during the deer season but open to rent to anglers the rest of the year. Would be a perfect lodging option for a corporate retreat, large family gathering or whenever you want to hit the river with a crew.
