NORTHLAND RETOOLS PROVEN PUPPET MINNOW DARTER JIG
Bemidji, Minn.—Northland’s versatile, deadly, and proven Puppet Minnow® has been a hit on the ice and in open water since its debut in 2009. For 2015, the company retooled this classic design complete with bold new Team Northland® inspired baitfish color patterns, body shape, texture, and more.
A horizontally balanced swimming lure that excels year-round for predators from walleyes and pike to perch, trout, and crappies, the Puppet Minnow® is perfect for vertical jigging maneuvers both on the bottom and for suspended targets. Like the proverbial puppet on a string, the aerodynamic “air-plane” body darts and flies in a semi-circle when ripped, pumped, or dropped in freefall mode, and works well with or without tipping the belly treble with a minnow head or artificial softbait such as Northland’s IMPULSE® Perch Eye.
Design tweaks included tucking the treble tighter to the belly via a shortened hanger, which allows larger hook sizes and boosts hook-setting success rates. Northland designers also gave the bait a more richly textured skin, which catches and reflects light better than flat finishes.
Other key upgrades include eight strike-triggering colorations crafted by Northland sages like tournament ace and legendary Northwoods guide Brian “Bro” Brosdahl. “The new Puppet Minnow® patterns imitate baitfish better than anything I’ve seen,” he says. “And the glowing red 3D ‘bulls-eye’ eyes seal the deal. Winter or summer, Puppet Minnows® appeal to predators’ appetites.”
The Puppet palette also includes a sampling of phosphorescent finishes, such as Glo Perch, Glo Redfish, and an instant pro-staff favorite, the bone-tinted Glo White. Puppet Minnows® are available in five sizes including standard 1½-, 2-, 2½- and 3-inch versions, plus a new 3½-inch, 1-ounce jumbo model. MSRP is $4.49 to $5.19.
